You’ve heard it said that X marks the spot.
Well the fields in Springfield were hops grew in the late 1880’s through the early 1900’s, mark the very spot for today’s current Hop Valley Brewing Company.
Hops were a major crop in the Willamette Valley back then, and where the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers merged were the home to some of the largest hop farms in the USA. One in fact, Alexander Seavey’s farm, was located right where the Hop Valley Brewing Company sits today.
It is from this heritage that Hop Valley Brewing has sprung, demonstrating why fresh local hops are such an important part of their brewing process, along with grains and yeasts also grown here in Oregon and the northwest.
Opening to rave reviews in February 2009, Hop Valley Brewing Company’s beers are crafted with great pride right on the premises by Brew Master, Trevor Howard. Also a local resource, Trevor was born in Eugene as were his father and grandfather. His great grandfather was born in Riddle Oregon in 1895.
A graduate of the OSU Fermentation Science Program in 2004, Trevor has won over 40 medals and awards at national and international beer tasting competitions.
Some of the award winning brews includes the 541
Lager, Double D Blonde and IPA handcrafted micro brews to name just a few.
Brewed with a 15 barrel system including four fermenters and five conditioning or finishing tanks, Hop Valley Brewing always keeps at least seven cornerstone beers on tap and usually two or three seasonal ales.
You might even find some Vanilla Porter in the cheesecake or Stepchild Red in the chocolate cake, since these desserts are homemade, along with the homemade breads, dressings and soups.
Everyone knows about their famous brews, but the great quality food at the Hop might be the best kept secret in the Valley.
The menu was built with a flair for international cuisine, which is a nice addition to the traditional pub fare and forms a unique partnership of flavors for traditional appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and salads. The food is prepared using local and organic products whenever possible.
